A group of representatives from the Tyler Sister Cities organization visited sister city Jelenia Góra, Poland from July 2-5, 2015.
On July 3, Karkonosze College in Jelenia Góra organized a seminar on the subject: “Partnership and common interests: Jelenia Góra and Tyler, Texas, USA”. The meeting included presentations on education, history, and culture in the region surrounding Jelenia Góra, and ended with a panel discussion.
The Tyler delegation was led by Tyler Sister Cities President Gary Swindle, who is also the city’s chief of police, and Mickey Slimp, Tyler Sister Cities board member.

The East Texas group received a welcome to Jelenia Góra Town Hall by Deputy Mayor Jerzy Łużniak.
Next, they visited with Piotr Jędrzejas, the director of C. K. Norwid Theater in Jelenia Góra. “He told the guests the story of the creation of street theatres and invited them to a three-day marathon of street theatres, hoping that the guests would allow themselves to be carried away by the magic of street art,” according to a news release.
During the Tyler group’s meeting with city officials, they watched a presentation about Jelenia Góra covering the valley’s tourist attractions, cultural events, and leisure opportunities. Later, they discussed the possibility of developing cooperation in the areas of culture, education, and the economy.
On Saturday, the Tyler delegation got to see first-hand many of the attractions introduced during the Town Hall meeting, including a stop in Cieplice, admiring the mountaintop views above the city, and visits to the medieval tower in Siedlęcin, the palaces in Wojanów and Łomnica, and the Kamieńczyk waterfall in Szklarska Poręba.
