The Tyler Sister Cities organization plans to honor the legacy of one of its most dedicated members by dedicating a new bench in the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden.
Tony Tadasa passed away in September 2021, but his memory remains in the hearts of his many friends in the Tyler community.
Born in Japan, he came to the United States to study at Tyler Junior College, where he met his wife, Kathy.
Tony’s kind spirit made him a friend to all.
He is remembered as a soft spoken, selfless individual who worked tirelessly to further the mission of Tyler Sister Cities and promote understanding through friendship and cooperation.
His native language of Japanese was essential in strengthening the relationship with Tyler’s sister city Yachiyo, serving as a translator for numerous delegation visits in Tyler and in Japan. He also worked diligently to prepare each group from East Texas to engage in traditional Japanese culture and business etiquette.
Tyler Sister Cities is currently in the final stages of fundraising for a memorial bench honoring Tadasa that will be placed near the peace pole in the Tyler Rose Garden.
The approximate cost of the project is $2,800.
After a recent $500 donation from NDMJ, Ltd Transportation, the current fundraising total has surpassed $1,700.
Individuals and organizations wishing to make a contribution to the Tony Tadasa Memorial Bench project can make a secure donation through the Tyler Sister Cities website at https://tylersistercities.org/donate/. Please select “Tony Tadasa Memorial” in the payment drop-down form.
A dedication ceremony will be announced at a later date.
